As noted in the overview, every single student in our class will be responsible for contributing to our Interactive Word Wall/ Geometry Dictionary. Each of you will chose a word to define in depth following the specific guidelines that will be listed below. This tool will become a valuable resource as we pursue our studies of Geometry over the course of the school year. However, this resource will only be as good as YOU make it. This project will be scored using the rubric which can be found under the menu: Interactive Geometry Dictionary --> Assessment. It will be scored out of a total of 12 points with the opportunity to earn two additional extras credit points. (details below)

Unit 1 Dictionary Entry Assignment
- Before you are able to begin your research and develop your own dictionary entry, you must chose a word from the word bank below and notify your classmates in the comments section of the Student Collaboration blog. First come, first serve! Comment using this format: Last name_Unit1_"the word"
- Upon choosing the word you would like to research, you will be expected to locate a formal definition of the word as it pertains to Geometry. I expect this definition to be written in complete sentences, free of spelling/punctuation errors, and make sense to your peers. I don't mind if you copy a "good" definition verbatim so long as you cite your sources!! (I have included creditable sources in the resources link under the Interactive Geometry Dictionary Menu.)
- Your project must be uploaded to your google drive so that you can provide a webpage URL for our interactive word wall. In order to create an URL you just have to click the "get sharable link" button.
- In addition to including a formal definition, you also should include the pronunciation of the word. (All in attempt to make our finished product look as professional as possible ;)).
- If applicable, include the proper notation of how the word is denoted in Geometry using proper symbols, diagrams, pictures, or other graphics.
- Your final product must include 2-3 relevant graphics and/or pictures.
- You must include an audio or visual podcast stating an explanation of the definition, or how it is discussed in context to Geometry. This can be one that you create yourself, or you can find the media of your choice online. (Again, cite sources!!) This should help you and your peers better understand the meaning of the word from a conceptual standpoint and not just a reading of the definition itself. It may include important facts or considerations when working with the word.
- The final product should be in the form of a PDF or document that that can be inserted directly onto the Interactive Geometry Dictionary landing page under Unit 1. Your audio or video files can be added separately using the editing features of Weebly. You each will be invited to edit that specific page of our classroom website, mathwithmrsfaulkner.weebly.com. I have attached tutorials about how to properly "edit" this webpage in accordance to the requirements of this assignment. You all will become very familiar with this process, because we will continue to upload words throughout the year. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need!
- It is your responsibility as a class to ensure that your documents are uploaded appropriately so that they are accessible to your classmates, and are in alphabetical order. Organization is key, and in order to make this tool the best it can be, you all will have to work together and communicate via classroom blog.
- After you have created your final project, and upload it to our webpage, you must get the URL in google drive to generate a QR code, print it, and submit it to me in person to attach to the interactive word wall. (Please test it to ensure it functions properly)
- EXTRA CREDIT: If you develop some special way of memorizing your definition in a way that helps it make sense to you using an acronym, a mnemonic, a diagram, or some other trick you can earn an additional 2 points.
As 10th graders, I trust your judgement and am giving you free reign to create your dictionary in a way that suits your learning styles and needs. The purpose of this project is to encourage you to go beyond rote memorization of these important definitions and understand what they mean in context to our studies. As 21st century learners, it is critical that you all begin to experience online collaboration with your peers, in the public eye. Our website is not exclusive to our class. Students, teachers, administrators, and anyone interested in visiting this site will have access to your work. I have high expectations that you all will present your findings professionally, and to allow the world to see how smart and creative you all are. The same is true of your discussions via blog. As a reminder, please be respectful of one another, and convey your ideas and comments using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation when applicable. You are not simply private messaging or texting one another during these blog collaborations, and your online presence is under supervision.
Good luck and have fun!! Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
